Is your heart and conscience like a grease covered boiler pan ?
---------"You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."------1 Corinthians 6:11
Does your past haunt you? When you look in the mirror every morning are there regrets?
In today's media, the popular messages are that fulfillment is found by looking within. That if your successful in life, then you know God really loves you, and if you not....then you pull up your boot straps and have a purposefull life. What a burden on the soul to think that by your efforts being just with God, having peace with Him ..... is up to your mood, your conscience clean before God.
Ever seen a brand new stove that comes with a broiler? That is God's expectation when Jesus said "Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect". If that is the expectation, there is no possible way one can look inside...pull up your boot straps ..... have positive thoughts on your own. If your like me, and your honest with yourself, my heart (the broiler of a new stove) is not shiny clean. Unlike new stoves that come with sparkling clean broiler pans that don't need washing.. my heart at birth does not. It came out of the package of my parents already grimed with sin. That's called original sin because it comes from my origin..... sinful human parents.
The psalmist professes: "In sin my mother concieved me", Jesus confirms this by saying it this way: "Flesh gives birth to flesh".
Does God leave us hopeless.....? No way! 1 Corinthians 6:11.
On Calvary Jesus' blood was strong enough to cut sin's grease and get rid of sin's grime from my heart. When God brings me to faith through the washing of Baptism or the working of his Word, he does his scrubbing in my heart. He applies Christ's cleanser directly to me. And not one spot of grime remains. Though I dirty the broiler pan of life with sin daily, I know where to go for washing. It's back to Jesus' blood. When God washes me with the Savior's forgiveness, I am completely clean.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for cleansing me with Jesus' blood. Wash me clean again and again, daily and richly forgiving all my sins. Amen.
