The purpose of God's Word Empty The purpose of God's Word

With the circus of people who fling it about, it sure makes one wonder.
Some use it to secure votes...others go to the other extreme to kill their children to "protect them from the devil"
Then others seemingly use it for predicting the end of the world (which does sell books and bottom lines) or get votes.

However, God's Word itself tells us what the purpose of it is for:

John 17:17
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season;
correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction

Acts 17:11
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians,
for they received the message with great eagerness and
examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

John 20:31
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
and that by believing you may have life in his name.

1 John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know that you have eternal life.

God's Word is to:

  • Sanctify ( make us holy \ perfect )
  • keep us prepared
  • verify what others say is true
  • to know who God is and have eternal life
  • to assure us of our salvation
